Whitsun Bank Holiday North Wales
With the bulk of the club membership doing other things, only 2 members were brave or silly enough to ignore the poor weather forecast, and venture forth. However we {Heather Smith, and myself} had both mugged a couple of friends to join in.
So Heather, was joined by Nicola from Preston, and I was again joined by Marcia [just a friend, from Croydon]. We all met in a café in Capel Curig and surprise, surprise it was raining bloody hell, so after a tour of various crags we spent the next 6 hours climbing at the excellent indoor wall "The Beacon"
Later we pitched up at a campsite in the grounds of a pub, on the Beddgelert, to Bangor road, about 15 mins north of Rhydd Ddu. Not bad apart from the midges, oh and the flooded gents.
Dinner was taken at the Cwyllen arms in Rhydd Ddu where my eagerly awaited pizza took about 1 ½ hours to turn up correctly, luckily the beer was top notch and the choice varied. Back to the campsite we decided against the pub, electing instead to demolish a bottle of wine sitting in Heather's car instead.
Next day misery, more rain so we took breakfast in Pete's eats, before walking around the old slate quarries above Llanberis country park, and getting free entry into the slate museum interesting but not climbing.
Did I mention my blisters, evidently new running shoes have to be broken in these days, the pain was exquisite.
Only as we passed through Tremadog on the way home did the weather improve so a few wistful gases were cast at team on Vector before we set off on the 5-hour journey home.
