Cornwall
For many of us this has been a long awaited trip, with many travelling down to the Lands End peninsular early to make the best of the forecast good weather.
Some phoned to complain that the campsite was nowhere near a pub, others to say that you cant turn up after 11.30pm and others to try to arrange lifts on the Thursday, and well what can I say. There is nothing like leaving to the last minute to make your transport arrangements to give your meets officer ulcers, and I didn't choose the campsite!
My adventure started at 4.30am on Saturday when Morag phoned for a lift, with Heather en-route, there was nothing for it but for Morag to drive to Farnborough for a rendezvous at chez Martin. With M & H duly installed in my car and asleep in no time at all we 3 made our way to the land of granite.
Breakfast came and went as did text messages, so we elected to meet at Bosigran where I collected Dave [my mate from Devon] and an epic 4 person ascent of little brown jug [VS 5a] was made, in blistering sunshine. 4 hours later 4 climbers were all severely dehydrated, so it was off to the campsite to arrange our tents and prepare for a most excellent BBQ.
OH MY ACHING HEAD! Alcohol and sunstroke is just what a chap needs for a days full on climbing. So I went to Sennen instead with D & H. Double overhangs {VS] was ticked off before the Sun came around to zap us. H then lead staircase [D]. Then it was silly season time with D and myself making solo ascents of the Irish Lady [possible due to a very low tide].
Paddling and ice cream came next before the Kings Arms in St Just for an excellent supper.
AAHHH sunburn, that's the life, Monday found the remaining membership at Sennen [again] I made a quick ascent of Andrimne [S] with Heather, before a Jolly good fester, in the blazing sun.
Our last route was a 2-pitch affair, with P1 thankfully sheltered. We decided to try the HS 4B variation of church window, with me leading the 4B 1st pitch and Heather leading through on the 4a 2nd pitch. A varied route with a thuggy 1st pitch and a delicate 2nd.
More paddling and ice cream duly followed…
Oh but the journey home well that's another [epic] story.
