A little bit of Cornwall
Easter found a large contingent of members in Cornwall. Eddie and I had ventured down on Thursday morning; all hopes of climbing vanished as the heavens opened. However we decided to stick it out and waited in Sennen for the weather to clear and the crag to dry. We managed to do a couple of routes, Africa Route and Slanting Crack so it wasn't a total waste!
Dinner and beers were taken in the rather fine surroundings of the Kings Arms in St. Just before moving onto the more traditional surroundings of the Wreckers Inn.
Friday morning and there where tents everywhere, most of the club had turned up in the wee small hours. After a late breakfast there was no common consensus on which crag to visit so the club scattered its self all over West Penwith. Eddie, Colin (where's me fags) and I went to Bosigran, Whilst Angela, Trev, Pete and Sarah decided on the great Landsend Long Climb at .... Landsend. This is a massive 7 pitch Cornish V.Diff with everything, including the question "How many blokes does it take to get a girlie to jump?" They then went over to Sennen to meet Scary Mary and the dangerous dames for an afternoon of social chat and easy climbing before the now traditional EGCC disco dancing section took to the floor to strut their funky stuff.
We all got up early on Saturday .... NOT. Most people opted for the Chair Ladder Experience. Mark and Gary had Bishops Rib (E1 5b) in mind, whilst Colin was going to lead Bridgit and Roger up the classic Terriers Tooth (VD). In the end Roger lead the final (and best) pitch. Eddie and I, well there was this big wave, and then another three waves that left me soaked and hanging onto the rock for grim death. After which I wandered about a bit in me under pants whilst the gear dried off. The local forecast had stated moderate sea state, light winds and sunshine. At low tide the monster waves where soaking the lower pitches and hosing down the brave and fool hardy. On the other side of the peninsular the sea was calm. Pete, Trev, Martin M, Angela and Sarah had decided to get away form it all at Zennor Cliff - a small crag with climbs ranging from S to E1 including 2 great VS's.
Saturday night at the Wrecker for LARGER! Dancing, Larger, missing boots, Larger and mayhem. A typical night out really.
Sunday morning and the rain came to spoil the party. Eddie, Mark and Gary disappeared to do Bosigran Ridge (VD), others went home. Roger, Richard, Mary, Briget, Morag and Myself formed a two car convoy for the tea shop traverse of St. Ives followed by some extreme sight seeing and mine visiting.
Monday was foggy and only the hardy where left. Eddie and I decided to tough it out at Bosigran, whilst the rest went for walkies in Moushole. We managed one route but it was a belter, a three pitch E1 5b which Eddie boldly lead.
