5-6 APRIL

North Devon / Baggy

Sea Cliffs and Granite Quarries. About 3-4 hours drive from EG

10-11 MAY

Eastern Peak District

Stanage, Froggat et al. Grit, limestone and some of the best and most well known climbing in the world.  It’s around 3 1/2 hours drive and can (just) be done as a day trip, but it’s better to take the full weekend

7-8 JUNE

Lakes

The birthplace of English climbing. The Lake District is a stunningly beautiful area of the country, even if you are not a climber. 5+ hours drive from East Grinstead, but well worth it.  Probably run as a long weekend (i.e. Friday – Sunday or Monday)

5-6 JULY

The Gower

Sea cliffs. Along the M4, into Swansea, and across a cattle grid. About 4 hours form home base

9-10 AUGUST

North Wales / Snowdonia

Another historic climbing area - This is where the 1952 Everest expedition did their training. Snowdonia would be the main focus, but if the weather in the hills turns Tremadog is nearby and often has totally different weather to the mountains – plus no walk in and a café just where the down path comes out… sweet!

23-25 AUGUST

Cornwall

Traditional Club Pilgrimage to Cornwall – Sun kissed grippy granite except for the slate bit, and when it rains!

13-14 SEPT

Wye Valley

Climbing on Limestone just 2 -3 hours down the M4

11-12 OCT

Swanage / Portland

Again 2 -3 hours drive from EG

DECEMBER

N. Wales

Not really a climbing trip this one, but generally something energetic gets done – even if it is only exercising the right (or left) elbow….

With the exception of the August Bank holiday weekend, I’ve avoided the bank holidays since we have a number of members with family commitments who maybe can’t make these. Don’t let this stop you from organising your own unofficial club trips at bank holiday weekends though if you’re lucky enough to be able to get away then.

OTHER IDEAS:
It has also been suggested that we try to organise one or two further afield trips – e.g. Font, El Chorro. These would last longer than the normal weekend dash (long weekend or a full week). Obviously these would need to be organised well in advance so if anyone has any interest in this please let me know and I will look into setting definite dates, costs etc.

If you are interested in going on any of the above meets or are willing to help organise one then get in contact with Jim Clarke
